Teaching

Josephine is a sought-after teacher of cello and chamber music in Melbourne with years of experience and a healthy stable of energetic students, both young and more advanced. On staff at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the Monash University Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Josephine is regularly invited to give masterclasses and mentor students.

Her teaching centres firmly on the student developing stylistic interpretations, establishing a musical technique, performance practice, keyboard / harmony /aural skills, smart practice methods, managing stage-fright and goal-directed learning. She encourages a playfulness in practice, seeking inspiration for young cellists through singing and imagery.

Josephine's students participate in regular class concerts where all students are encouraged to perform current repertoire for friends and family. These friendly concerts highlight ensemble skills, gesture and a strong work ethic.

Josephine has also helped many students to further their careers at higher music schools such as the Australian National Academy of Music, and overseas at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester) LINK, Curtis Institute of Music (United States), Musik Akademie der Stadt Basel (Switzerland), Seoul Music Academy (South Korea) and the Hannover Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Germany).
